Biography
Dr. Nicholas Stence has been Director of Pediatric Neuroradiology at Children’s Hospital Colorado since 2010. During his time, the pediatric neuroradiology section has grown to 5 members who provide full-time dedicated subspecialty expertise. All of the major advanced diagnostic imaging modalities for pediatric neuro-oncology have also brought online since Dr. Stence joined CHCO, including high resolution anatomic imaging, MR spectroscopy, MR perfusion, diffusion tensor imaging, and functional MRI. Dr. Stence and his colleague Dr. David Mirsky have also facilitated the use of real-time MR guidance for CHCO neurosurgeons to use during stereotactic laser ablation of select pediatric brain tumors. Dr. Stence and the pediatric neuroradiology section actively collaborate with the CHCO neuro-oncology group on multiple research projects involving advanced imaging, including recent specific projects that include advanced imaging of V600E positive tumors, MR spectroscopy, and in depth analysis of craniopharyngioma imaging characteristics. Additionally, Dr. Stence acts as the CHCO neuroimaging contact for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Consortium Neuroimaging Center. Dr. Stence’s other main research interests include imaging of pediatric brain injuries, including pediatric stroke and abusive head trauma.
